The Brass Music Collective Will Create Their First Album At AIR Studio 1 On 16th February 2023
DEVON, UK, January 16th 2023: Renowned chamber ensemble Superlocrian will be working with the esteemed music engineer John Prestage to create their debut album at AIR Studio 1 on February 16th 2023.
Led by musical director and composer/arranger Sam Massey, the South-West based wind ensemble specialise in delivering beautiful arrangements of an exciting variety of chamber music classics, film scores, and fan favourites. The band have been featured on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune programme, as well as at many music festivals and events both in the UK and around Europe.
Superlocrian consists of six internationally acclaimed wind instrumentalists – Gavin Mallet, Dean Wright, Jade Gall, Edward Leaker, Mike Poyser, and Tom Green, each of whom are known across the UK and beyond for their talents and impressive portfolios.
Their chosen recording venue, AIR Studios, was originally founded in 1970 by Beatles producer Sir George Martin in an old banqueting hall based at Oxford Circus, London. At that time, AIR Studios was a collaboration of celebrated freelance producers, including Ron Richards, John Burgess, and Peter Sullivan.
Within its first decade, AIR Studios became known as the recording venue where some of the greatest albums of all time were made, such as Meddle by Pink Floyd, Queen’s Sheer Heart Attack, Roxy Music’s For Your Pleasure, and the Sex Pistol’s Never Mind The B*llocks – as well as classic tracks like Kate Bush’s Wuthering Heights and Paul McCartney’s James Bond theme song Live And Let Die.
The room where Superlocrian will be recording – AIR Studio 1 – is where tracks by some of the greatest names in modern music have been created. Just some of the artists who have graced AIR Studio 1 include Radiohead, U2, Coldplay, Muse, Biffy Clyro, Adele, Katy Perry, and Dua Lipa.
Studio 1 has also hosted the recording of film and television scores for a wide range of popular productions, from the sci-fi classic Doctor Who, to the 2018 historical dramas A Very English Scandal and Mary Queen Of Scots, the Spanish drama Pain And Glory, and the biographical drama Judy.
Superlocrian’s chosen engineer, John Prestage, joined AIR in 2011 and has played a crucial role as Pro Tools recordist in the development of several high-profile projects, including major film scores for Isle of Dogs by Alexander Desplat, Red Sparrow by James Newton Howard, and Lady In The Van by George Fenton.
Alongside these internationally acclaimed films, he has worked on album projects for some of the most influential musicians in the world, with his credits including the likes of Adele, Biffy Clyro, Muse, and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. More recently, he has also worked on the debut album of the Patchwork Jazz Orchestra.
Superlocrian look forward to working with a renowned industry expert of such calibre in a world-leading studio, and are excited to be creating their own recordings of chamber classics for their loyal fans to enjoy.
